Technically, a more senior officer should lead the mission because he/she has to lead multiple teams - The medic, assault, naval teams and coordinate them since he/she has the most authority.

Guys, what seems to be the hold-up? I have been sent from the main ship to oversee things on land. *A unicorn walks up towards them with Sirius the gyphon following, carrying a heavy sniper set*

Lieutantant Commander Nocturne? Madam? Did you get tired of playing sniper?

They got away, but I roughly get the situation now. Yo, Captain' and some musician pony.

We've had a few setbacks. Also, our radios were jammed. We have had to send one of our own back to the ship due her needing to be taken for medical attention. The captain is also acting as if he's about to have a mental episode. So, the situation has gotten even more complicated.
